O'Rawe meets with Rural Development agencies
Sinn Féin's Rural Regeneration spokesperson, Pat O'Rawe has been meeting with the Rural Community Network and the Rural Development Council in a bid to get a better understanding of their concerns at this time of continuous change in the area of rural development.
Speaking after the meetings, Mrs.O'Rawe said:
"One of the key points that was raised by both groups I met with, was the need for all political parties to take a detailed look at what is happening in rural areas across the six counties. Rural regeneration and rural development is not only about the agricultural and farming communities, it is about all of those people who live in the countryside. It is imperative in order to deliver sustainable and thriving rural communities that funding for rural groups is accessible and substantial. Rural communities have many needs in areas such as the future of rural schools, housing, transport, economic regeneration, and telecommunications.
"Another key factor in Rural Regeneration is that many other government agencies must be involved in the planning and the implementation of rural policy. The review, which Price Water House Coopers in conducting into Rural Development due to be published shortly, will be key to the future development of rural areas. We will be working closely with the main stake holders and the rural community to ensure that the voice of rural communities is at the heart of any new rural development programme." ENDS
