Dessie Ellis expresses sadness at death of homeless man outside Leinster House
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Dessie Ellis has said he is saddened to hear of the death of a homeless man outside Leinster House today.
Deputy Ellis said last week’s housing announcement by government had no inclusion of emergency measures to deal with the homelessness crisis.
“That this man took his last breath just outside the parliament that rubber stamped the policies that failed him is highly symbolic.
“I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. He was failed by this state and he died on the street.
“Just last week the government produced a plan to deal with the housing crisis in this state yet there was not one emergency measure in that plan to deal with the homeless crisis.
“That is an indictment on this government and this man’s death is an indictment on this and previous governments that have neglected the homeless crisis.”
“My thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones.”
