Dublin Sinn Féin councillor calls for public survey on ideas for a 1916 commemorative monument- Cllr Séamas McGrattan
Sinn Féin group leader on Dublin City Council Cllr Séamas McGrattan has asked Dublin City Council to consider commencing a public survey, via the Commemorations Committee, to see what should Dublin City Council should commission to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising.
Speaking tonight after the Dublin City Council Meeting Cllr McGrattan said:
“It is essential that the citizens of this city should have an opportunity to have a say on the city commemoration plans for 2016. With the passing of the City Council budget last month. Sinn Féin ensured that an additional €200,000 was set aside to honour the martyrs of 1916. Now we must ensure that the public can influence how this funding is spent.”
“I look forward to hearing back from the Commemorations sub-Committee on my proposal.”
