2 December, 2014 - by Martina Anderson MEP

Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has welcomed the visit this week by party leader Gerry Adams TD to the Middle East and she has urged the Israeli government to facilitate Mr. Adams entry into Gaza.

The chair of the European Union's delegation to the Palestinian Legislative Council said;

"Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD will be visiting the Middle East this week as part of peace-building efforts in the region.

"During his visit he will meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.

"He will also meet with the leader of the Israeli Labour party, Issac Herzog.

"He has also received an invitation from the United Nations Works and Relief Agency to visit Gaza to see at first hand the work they are carrying out there following the recent Israeli bombardment.

"I would urge the Israeli government to facilitate Mr. Adams visit to Gaza.

"Gerry Adams is an internationally recognised statesman and peacemaker and he has a wealth of experience which could be brought to bear in the Middle East peace process.”
