Concerns at predictions of drop in farm incomes: Ferris

3 December, 2014 - by Martin Ferris TD

Sinn Féin agriculture spokesman, Martin Ferris TD, has expressed concern at the predictions for a drop in farm incomes next year.

Deputy Ferris said;

“The Teagasc Outlook 2015 report is very worrying. It predicts that farm incomes could be down as much as a quarter.

“There are also forecasts that milk prices will be down to 27c a litre, in other words, ten cents down from this year, due to high production this year.

“We share the concerns of Teagasc that this will have a serious effect on the small operators.

“In order to ensure that they remain viable, Minister Coveney must put support mechanisms in place to secure the viability of the dairy sector.
