Sinn Féin Cllr Daithí Doolan urges all Dublin City Councillors to boycott tomorrow’s meeting with Irish Water in City Hall
Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Daithí Doolan has urged all Dublin City Councillors to boycott tomorrow’ meeting with Irish Water in City Hall.
Speaking today Cllr. Doolan said:
"Tomorrow’s meeting with Irish Water is a propaganda stunt paid for by tax payer’s money. This expensive photo op must be exposed for what it is. It has nothing to do with improving people’s water supply and everything to do with rehabilitating a toxic organisation . Irish Water should be scrapped along with the government’s water charges. Sinn Féin will be boycotting the meeting and we are calling on all councillors to do likewise. The meeting is an attempt to massage councillors into accepting an organisation that has no public credibility.
"Sinn Féin will continue to actively campaign with others against water charges and Irish Water. We are the only party who have given a public commitment to scrapping water charges and to shutting down Irish Water. We were successful in opposing water charges in the North in 2007. We aim to do the same here in the South. People already pay for their domestic water in their taxes. It is both unjust and unacceptable to impose a second charge on households. No amount of Irish Water spin or government concessions will change that.
"I urge other councillors to join with us at our peaceful protest outside City Hall tomorrow to highlight opposition to Irish Water and the government's water charges."
