The government has failed to listen on water charges - Colreavy
Deputy Michael Colreavy, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has said that the government has failed to listen to the people on water charges.
Speaking in the Dáil today, Deputy Colreavy said:
“As the drip feed of information emerged about Irish Water I asked myself could any Government give birth to what appeared to be a totally dysfunctional entity – a quango offering well paid jobs for the inner-circle boys?
“Surely no Government or Department or Minister could be so incompetent?
“Perhaps I am naïve politically but I kept an open mind but maybe the actions might follow the words.
“However nothing had changed – this Government continued exactly where the last left off, and the undertakings to listen to alternative opinions and to work with members of the opposition were just empty promises.
“Rushed legislation after rushed legislation; failure by Government to listen and hear opposition TDs and indeed to listen and hear the people; bad decision after bad decision.
“The government hasn’t got the message yet.
“They say they have been listening to the people opposed to water charges.
“If they were listening they would know that the people are demanding the scrapping of water charges and not a package to sweeten the deal.”
