McGuinness welcomes Rugby World Cup bid
Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness has welcomed an all-Ireland bid to host the Rugby World Cup in 2023.
Speaking after the bid was announced, Mr McGuinness said;
"This bid to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup in Ireland would provide a tremendous boost to the entire island if successful.
"We have demonstrated in the past that we have the ability to host large-scale international events to the highest standard.
"In 2007 the Rugby World Cup was broadcast in over 200 countries and attracted a television audience of billions so the potential audience is huge.
"It would involve teams coming to Ireland weeks in advance of the competition starting for training camps, providing a major boost to the tourism industry and that's before supporters from across the world descend.”
