Waterford Crystal settlement an important victory for workers and their union – Cullinane
Sinn Féin’s David Cullinane has praised the former Waterford Crystal workers and congratulated their union, Unite for winning an important victory.
Speaking in response to the announcement that the Cabinet has agreed to sign off on a pension deal for the workers, Senator Cullinane said:
“This government treated the Waterford Crystal workers with the utmost contempt.
“It dragged them through the courts, from the High Court to the European Court of Justice, back to the High Court and finally to the Labour Relations Commission.
“It is disgraceful that workers should have to go through such hoops to get what they are rightfully entitled to.
“The successful culmination of this long struggle is a victory for the workers, their friends and families.
“It is also an important victory for organised labour and clearly shows that unions are relevant in the struggle for workers rights.
“The pension deal is a vindication of the Waterford workers and their union, UNITE.
“I congratulate them both for the dignified and unyielding way they fought this struggle.”
