Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht turns her back on Moore Street project - McLellan
Speaking in the Dáil today Sinn Féin TD Sandra McLellan called on the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht to initiate a full and independent battlefield site survey of the Moore Street area bringing together all stakeholders with the intention of developing a new plan to protect, preserve and develop this historic quarter of the capital city.
The Sinn Féin Arts and Heritage Spokesperson said:
“Dublin City Council’s decision to respect and preserve the historic site in its entirety in preparation for the 2016 centenary celebrations should have been welcomed by the government, but instead the Minister for Arts, Heritage and an Gaeltacht has expressed her disappointment that the land swap did not take place.
“The Minister has stated that the granting of the consent under the National Monuments Act completes her department involvement in the Moore Street project. It is clear that Fine Gael has no interest in progressing Dublin City Council’s ambition vision to develop and preserve the historic quarter, which is so central to the capital city’s 1916 centenary celebrations.”
