We welcome the action plan announced by government ministers to address homelessness in Dublin- Cllr Ní Dhálaigh
Dublin Sinn Féin housing spokesperson and chair of Dublin City Council (DCC) housing
SPC Cllr Criona Ní Dhálaigh has welcomed the key actions announced by Minister’s Kelly and Coffey today.
Speaking this evening on the proposals Cllr Ní Dhálaigh said:
“The announcement of 260 additional emergency beds is welcome and these beds need to be up and running as soon as possible
I also welcome the opening of the Nite Café especially for those who do not want to use the emergency hostels and who are sleeping rough.
I would give a cautious welcome on the proposal that 50% of all housing allocations should be for homeless households and other vulnerable groups but this should be on a temporary basis.
The proposals around Nama are overdue and the 1046 vacant properties should be allocated as soon as possible.
However welcome these plans are, Minister Kelly needs to urgently address the issue of the rent cap for rent allowance and address the serious concerns regarding rent certainty as these two issues were the main contributors to the current homeless crisis.”
