Call for Minister to meet GFA Committee and outline Government's input to political talks in North - Martin Ferris TD
Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris and other members of the Good Friday Agreement Committee are calling on Minister Charlie Flanagan TD to come before them this week to report on the Governments input to the political talks in the North.
Speaking today Deputy Ferris said, "The Good Friday Agreement Committee represents both Houses of the Oireachtas and our remit is to consider ongoing developments in relation to the implementation of the Agreement and related matters."
"It is therefore important that the Committee has an opportunity this week and before the Christmas recess to hear directly from Minister Flanagan on how the Government, as joint guarantors of the Good Friday Agreement, are fulfilling its responsibilities as part of the current talks process."
"Today, a number of Committee colleagues and I have together written to the chairman requesting that a special meeting is convened this week. We are requesting that Minister Flanagan would attend before the Committee for a direct engagement in relation to the talks, which we are very keen to see progressed."
"We expect that the meeting will take place before the Christmas recess and that Minister Flanagan will welcome the opportunity to attend and engage on these matters."
