Dublin City Council back SF proposal for Luke Kelly statue

2 November, 2004

Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Christy Burke has welcomed the unanimous backing of last nights City Council meeting of his motion to erect a statue to singer songwriter Luke Kelly in the Docklands area or in the North Inner City.

Councillor Burke said:

"At last night's meeting of Dublin City Council Sinn Féin put forward a motion calling for all party backing for the erection of a statue to one of Dublin's greatest sons - singer songwriter Luke Kelly - to mark the 20th anniversary of his death. I am delighted that the Council backed this motion unanimously and has agreed to commission a statue and to find a suitable location for its erection in the Docklands area or in the North Inner City."
