McAleer backs call for replacement of safety barrier
Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer has backed a call for the replacement of a crash barrier on the Malone Road where a Tyrone student was killed last year.
Speaking after the Regional Development committee agreed to call on the department to replace the barrier, the West Tyrone MLA said;
“Eighteen-year-old student Enda Dolan from Killyclogher in Tyrone was killed while walking along the Malone Road back to his student accommodation at Queen's Elms.
"A crash barrier separating the footpath from the road had been removed from the spot where he was killed less than a month beforehand.
"The Dolan family has called for the barrier to be replaced and when I visited them I told them I'd raise it at the regional development committee.
"The committee have now agreed with my proposal to call on the department to replace the crash barrier.
"I have also tabled a question to the regional development minister asking when the barrier will be replaced.
"This is an area used by thousands of students and local residents and it is vitally important that the barrier is replaced to ensure we don't have a repeat of this tragic incident."
