Hospital crisis caused by government austerity policies – Gerry Adams TD
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has the hospital crisis has been caused by the government’s austerity agenda and can only be fixed by a reversal of these policies.
Speaking today Deputy Adams said;
“The Government is starting the New Year in the same way that it finished the last – stumbling from one debacle to another.
“The most obvious evidence of an incompetent government is in the scandal of hundreds of citizens on trolleys and chairs in hospitals across the state.
“This is a result of government policy. If you cut nurses by 2,724 and nursing home beds and long term care placements by 2000 then you are going to have a crisis.
“If you destroy homecare packages, the community support and public nursing homes then you should not be surprised to be in this shameful situation.
“This crisis is a result of this government’s austerity agenda. It can only be fixed by a reversal of these policies.”
