Hospital crisis is a result of bad government – Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD
Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has said the crisis in hospitals across the state is a government made crisis. He said the failure of the government to invest in hospital services and to listen to front line staff has directly led to the current crisis.
He said the provision of extra beds, extra nurses, step-down facilities, long term care and nursing home beds is the only long term solution to the crisis.
Speaking today Deputy Ó Caoláin said;
“This is a government made crisis. There is no epidemic that has led to this crisis. The government’s failure to invest in hospital staff and beds and its failure to listen to the concerns of frontline staff has directly led to this crisis. This is yet another broken election promise by Enda Kenny.
“The government’s handling of the crisis, and particularly Minister Varadkar’s response, is not good enough.
“The only long term solution to this crisis is the provision of extra beds, extra nurses, step-down facilities, long term care and nursing home beds.
“The Minister needs to address these issues and he should appear in front of the Oireachtas Health Committee at the earliest possibility to outline his plans and to hear the proposals of other representatives on this issue.”
