Sinn Féin backs coroner’s call for disclosure on Sean Brown murder
Sinn Féin MLA Ian Milne has welcomed the decision by the coroner to call Chief Constable George Hamilton to answer the PSNI delay in providing a report into the killing of GAA official Sean Brown.
Mr Milne said,
“It is important that any information held by the PSNI is given over to the Coroner so the Brown family can access the truth about the murder of Sean in May 1997.
“The family of Sean Brown have waited over 17 years for an inquest so it is crucial there is no further delay to the proposed March 2015 start date.
“A report was compiled by the Historical Enquires Team into the murder. That report must be given to the family and made accessible to the coroner so that we can get to the truth.
“The Chief Constable or a senior officer must now tell us what is causing the delay and rectify the situation immediately.
“This case shows once again the importance of the role of the coroner in holding statutory bodies to account which are trying to obstruct families’ efforts to get maximum disclosure about the killings of their loved ones.” ENDS.
