Fearon calls for threat against forestry workers to be lifted
Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has called for a threat against forestry workers carrying our essential work in the Ring of Gullion to be lifted.
Speaking after forestry workers were threatened by a masked man, the Newry and Armagh MLA said;
"Sub-contractors were carrying out essential environmental works to deal with trees with larch tree disease in the Ring of Gullion when one was approached by a masked individual who told them to stop work immediately and leave the site.
"This was a very sinister and frightening experience, not only for the person involved but for all those working on the project.
"The contractors have now left the site as a result of this disgraceful threat.
"Any threat against people going about their day's work is wrong and must be condemned.
"This is an attack on the entire local community and it has outraged people in the area.
"I would call on the individual or individuals behind this threat to lift it immediately so that these people can carry out their work free from fear or intimidation.
"I will also be seeking an urgent meeting with the Forestry Service to discuss this matter."
