Cllr Janice Boylan calls on Minister Alan Kelly to visit O'Devaney Gardens

16 January, 2015

Dublin Sinn Féin Cllr Janice Boylan has called on Minister Alan Kelly to visit O'Devaney Gardens and see exactly what condition the units are in that he proposes are suitable for homeless families.

Speaking today Cllr Boylan said:

“If Minister Kelly decides to pay a visit he should look at the appalling conditions some of the remaining tenants, who have stayed through a failed regeneration of the area, are living in. These people have been residing in conditions that can only be described as a living nightmare. There are no playground facilities in the complex and the level of anti-social behaviour and activity has reached an all-time high.

Minister Kelly would be better positioned to make announcements on plans for the area if he actually knew the area and the appalling conditions currently in O’Devaney Gardens. Residents deserve the right to know what's going on and as soon as the decision is made their concerns regarding it must be taken seriously."
