Gerry Adams TD commends Minister Leo Varadkar
Speaking today Gerry Adams said:
"I commend Leo Varadkar for coming out as a Gay man. It was a brave thing to do.
"Although the Minister's sexuality is his own business, the fact is that his statement today may help young men in this country who have sexual identity issues or who are discriminated against because of their sexual orientation."
Mr Adams went on to say:
"In the next election Sinn Féin will seek the biggest possible mandate to strengthen our hand in negotiating a Programme for Government that is about repairing society, following the widespread damage inflicted by the Fine Gael/Labour Government.
"This must include the abolition of Water Charges and Property Tax, a realistic programme to the end the housing crisis and the rebuilding of public services, especially the Health Service.
"Fine Gael & Labour have failed to act as co-guarantors of the Good Friday Agreement. The Government's role in the recent Stormont negotiations saw further evidence of this.
"In Government Sinn Féin will defend, promote and implement all aspects of the Good Friday and subsequent Agreements.
"This Government is now on its last legs, clinging power and imposing policies that gave clearly been rejected by the vast majority of people.
The Government has lost its mandate and the Taoiseach should allow citizens to have their say now by calling a General Election."
