New busking bylaws for Dublin City welcomed- Cllr Séamas McGrattan
Sinn Féin group leader on Dublin City Council Cllr Séamas McGrattan has welcomed the new Street Performers bylaws that were updated today.
Speaking after a special meeting of the arts and culture committee today Cllr McGrattan said:
“I welcome and support the new busking bylaws. These bylaws mean that busking will always be a part of our city. The culture committee will recommend the updated bye-laws to the full City Council next month.
“The laws were updated after 88 submissions were received on the issue after a public consultation process and aim to allay the concerns of both street performers and residents.
Some of the main strands of the bylaws include a setting of time limits to respect local resident concerns, all performers will have a permit that will protect buskers and allow them to continue performing yet it can be revoked if performers do not adhere to a code of conduct.
Furthermore an 80 decibel limit will reduce excessive amplification.
These new bylaws will be reviewed after six months to ensure they are effective and to iron out any potential issues arising out of the implementation of these laws.”
