Start date for transformation of Brandywell welcomed

19 January, 2015 - by Raymond McCartney

Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has welcomed the news that the regeneration of the Brandywell site as part of the Foyle Valley Gateway will begin on May 28th.

 Mr McCartney said,

“The news that the demolition of the Glentoran Stand on May 28th will mark the beginning of the transformation of the Brandywell area is to be welcomed.

“Not only will Derry City FC get a deserved new stadium but we it will see the Showgrounds and Daisy Field sites undergo a massive redevelopment that will benefit the entire community.

“The money from Derry City Council coupled by the money committed to the Foyle Valley Gateway from DCAL and OFM/dFM will ensure that this project can now be fulfilled over the months and years ahead.

“This project will have a massive impact in terms of promoting social inclusion, tackling health and social inequalities, building sporting excellence and maximising participation.

“I look forward to seeing this transformation of the Brandywell area and watching Derry City in a new modern stadium.”
