Lagarde's patronising remarks only outdone by compliance of Government – Gerry Adams TD
Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams TD has said patronising remarks by Christine Lagarde at today's IMF conference in Dublin, were only outdone by the compliant stance of the Irish Government.
Deputy Adams said:
"Today saw a desperate Fine Gael/Labour government claiming plaudits for achieving austerity targets that have inflicted widespread societal damage.
"It would have suited the Government better to lead delegates around Dublin city centre to see the levels of poverty and deprivation that are a result of the policies of the IMF and this government.
"Christine Lagarde's patronising remarks were only outdone by the continued compliant stance of the Irish Government.
"For ordinary citizens today's event was a reminder of a Government which still meekly serves the Troika's agenda and not the interests of the Irish people."
