Dublin Sinn Féin call on Minister to postpone further Junior cycle reforms
Dublin Sinn Féin council group leaders, Seamas McGrattan (Dublin City Council), Paul Donnelly (Fingal), Shane O Brien (Dun Laoghaire- Rathdown) and Cathal King (South Dublin) have called on the Minister for Education and Skills to postpone further implementation of Junior Cycle reform until all outstanding matters are resolved with the teachers.
Speaking today Sinn Féin Dublin West election candidate Paul Donnelly said:
“Sinn Féin is not against education reform, we are in favour of what is best for students but it is not fair to expect teachers to deliver changes and implement a new system when they simply do not have the resources to do so.”
“Teachers are already overburdened due to a litany of cuts. The education of our young people should be at the heart of every education policy, and for our educators to implement the reform of the junior cert properly, adequate funding and support must be provided.
