Answers needed on Daisy Hill 'out of hours' service - Brady

21 January, 2015 - by Mickey Brady

Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady has said serious questions need to be answered about the 'out of hours' provision and ambulance cover at Daisy Hill hospital in Newry.

The Newry and Armagh MLA said;

"The out of hours service at Daisy Hill hospital in Newry has been closed at night on a number of occasions recently.

"This, combined with problems with ambulance cover and the non-availability of certain medicines at the hospital, makes it apparent there is a crisis.

"And it is those who rely on the services of the hospital and the workers there who are suffering most.

"I have written to the Southern Health Trust to express my concerns at the night-time closure of the out of hours service and the reduction of medical and administration staff.

"Any closure of the out of hours service would also have an impact on A&E services.

"While I received an initial response from the Trust, serious questions need to be answered about the out of hours service at Daisy Hill and throughout the Southern Trust area.

"I have requested a meeting with senior Southern Trust officials and hospital management to discuss this important issue."
