Ministers must move now to support Gallaher's workforce - McKay
Speaking following the news that the proposed closure of JTI Gallaher will go ahead Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay said:
"The unions and staff have carried out a great deal of work to try and save jobs at Gallaher's and it is disappointing that JTI have rejected the very reasonable proposals that were put forward.
"There is now an onus on the DETI and DEL Ministers to secure funding under the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund for these workers and help them secure alternative employment and training
"I raised this issue with both Ministers last year. I have now tabled urgent questions to Arlene Foster and Stephen Farry asking them to act swiftly on putting support in place for these workers and their families."
