Sinn Féin looks forward to working with new General Secretary of ICTU – Cullinane
Sinn Fein’s spokesperson on Workers Rights David Cullinane, has welcomed the appointment of Patricia King as the new General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
Senator Cullinane said:
“Patricia King is a committed and able trade union leader and I have no doubt she will do a good job at the ICTU when she takes up the post in March.
“This is a historic moment for the Labour Movement as Ms. King will be the first female head of Congress in its 121 year history.
“On behalf of myself and Sinn Fein I wish her the best in her new role.
“Across the country ordinary people are calling for a different type of politics - one that is accountable, transparent and addresses the needs of the poor, the vulnerable and workers.
“The Trade Union Movement is central to achieving the goal of a fairer and more equal Ireland.
“This means we must work together to address the issue of low pay, zero hour contracts and bad working conditions.
“I look forward to working with Patricia King to ensure delivery of robust collective bargaining legislation, decent public services, fair employment and decent pay for all our people.”
