Nurses to be taken off register for failure to pay increased retention fee- Cllr Ciarán O’ Moore

23 January, 2015

Dublin City councillor and Sinn Féin representative Ciarán O’Moore has called on the Tánaiste Joan Burton to clarify the social welfare payments available to nurses who have been told they will be released from duty for non-payment of the requested retention fee of €150 to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

Cllr O’Moore said:

“Thousands of HSE nurses who have paid the €100 euro registration fee to NMBI have been told they will be taken off the register and prevented from working as nurses due to their refusal to pay the absurd and unjust fee increase to the NMBI. As an elected public representative I am appealing to the HSE to do its utmost to prevent this imminent catastrophe, where thousands of nurses will be let go from their jobs bringing the fragile health care system crashing to its knees.”
