Sinn Féin calls for Commission of Investigation into allegations from Anna Bubula.
Sinn Féin deputies Mary Lou McDonald and Padraig Mac Lochlainn have called for a Commission of Investigation into the serious allegations made by Anna Bubula.
Serious questions have arisen regarding the role played by the Gardaí and the HSE in the treatment of Ms Bubula following her alleged sexual assault.
Sinn Fein's Mary Lou Mc Donald and Padraig Mac Lochlainn are calling on the Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald to meet with Anna Bubula.
Sinn Féin Justice spokesperson Pádraig Mac Lochlainn said:
“Deputy McDonald and I met both Ms Bubula and Mr Mc Evoy some time ago to discuss this case. We have listened to this woman's story and feel very strongly that this case warrants a Commission of Investigation due to the implications for the Gardaí and the HSE. The case goes much further than just alleged Garda malpractice.
“We commend PJ McEvoy for advocating on Anna's behalf throughout this horrific ordeal and we will be raising this case with the Minister and advocating on behalf of Ms Bubula."
Deputy McDonald said:
“Ms Bubula has been through an absolutely horrific ordeal and she has suffered terribly. There are serious concerns regarding how her case was handled by the policing and justice system. The fact that the details of her very serious assault were not passed onto to the Gardaí while she was in hospital is also of grave concern”
