President should not be focus of political protests – Adams
Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams TD has condemned the personal abuse directed at Úachtaran na hÉireann, Michael D Higgins. Mr Adams also said that the President should not be the focus of political protests.
Speaking this evening, Gerry Adams said:
“I want to condemn the ugly verbal abuse of Úachtaran na hÉireann, Michael D Higgins during a street protest over the Water Charges issue last Friday.
“This type of behaviour is unacceptable and does not advance the cause which those involved claim to support.
“Úachtaran na hÉireann has a very specific and important designated role under the Constitution and I believe it is inappropriate for the President to be the focus of political protests.”
