Sleep-out protest tonight at the Dáil- Cllr Chris Andrews
A sleep-out protest to highlight the issue of homelessness and the lack of government action on housing will take place tonight (Wednesday, 4th February) at 8pm on Kildare Street outside the gates of Leinster House.
Cllr. Chris Andrews, who has organised the protest said:
"We need to make sure the government makes homelessness and housing a priority. For those who are homeless it's not just about getting a room in a hostel. It's about much more than that and adequate service provision is essential, particularly in relation to addiction and mental health services."
Cllr. Andrews, who is a volunteer with the Inner City Helping Homeless group, continued "Side by side with the homelessness issue there are waiting times on social housing lists that are nothing short of scandalous and the conditions in which many who are considered housed live are deplorable."
What's needed from the government is not piecemeal solutions but a genuine overarching strategy and a proper investment programme for housing provision, with homeless services, social and affordable housing and regeneration of inner city flat complexes taking centre stage".
