Minister must be more vocal on Halawa detention- Lynn Boylan MEP
Dublin Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan has called on Minister Flanagan to be more proactive and to exert more pressure on international authorities to secure the release of Irish teenager Ibrahim Halawa.
Speaking today Ms. Boylan said:
“The continued postponement of Ibrahim’s trial and his on-going detention is evidence that he will not receive a fair trial. Ibrahim has now been detained for over five hundred days and has had his trial postponed four times. Ibrahim was peacefully exercising his right to freedom of expression and assembly and could face the death penalty if convicted. The Minister for Foreign Affairs must be more vocal in his condemnation of Mr. Halawa’s continued detention and must use every means at his disposal to help secure Ibrahim’s immediate release.”
