Interactive defibrillator map will help save lives
Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has called for an interactive map based register of defibrillators to be created across the North.
Mr McMullan said,
“There is no doubt that having access to a defibrillator can save the life of someone whose heart has stopped as we have seen in recent years.
“However there has also been tragic cases where people could have been saved if there had been access to a defibrillator so it is important that we know where these machines are situated.
“Over the past few years many sports clubs, health centres and other community facilities have had defibrillators installed and staff trained on their use.
“I am calling on these defibrillators to be included in an interactive map based register that would allow people to see where the nearest one is in the case of an emergency.
“Not only will this allow people to see the closest machine but would also highlight areas where there are none available and allow these gaps to be filled.
“I will be bringing a motion forward to the Assembly calling for the map to be created so that more lives can be saved.”
