PAC should run parallel investigation into alleged tax evasion by Irish HSBC Swiss bank account holders – McDonal
The Sinn Féin member of the Public Accounts Committee Mary Lou McDonald TD has requested that the Public Accounts Committee investigate allegations of tax evasion by Irish HSBC Swiss bank account holders, at the earliest opportunity.
Deputy McDonald said:
‘Plans to investigate allegations that the HSBC helped wealthy clients evade hundreds of millions worth of tax are under active consideration in other affected jurisdictions. I have therefore written to the Public Accounts Committee to request an examination of this issue.
‘I would expect that, at a minimum, the PAC would invite the Revenue Commissioners to answer questions with respect to the allegations relevant to its statutory function in tax collection in this jurisdiction from Irish account holders.
‘This is a matter of serious public concern. The PAC should act.’
