Mickey Brady MLA accuses Fianna Fáil of being ill-informed and wrong on welfare
Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady has accused Fianna Fáil of being out of touch and wrong with regard to the Welfare Bill currently under consideration by the Assembly.
Mr Brady said;
"Sinn Féin is totally opposed to austerity, regardless of whether it emanates from the Tory party, Fine Gael, Labour or Fianna Fáil.
"It appears that Fianna Fáil are out of touch and ill-informed with regard to the Welfare Bill being debated at the Assembly. It appears to have rehashed out-of-date information as new opinion. It is quite simply and factually wrong.
“Contrary to the Fianna Fáil claim, the reality is that the Bill secures welfare protections unique to the North including funds of £564 million being made available for at least the next six years to protect people from Tory cuts to benefits.
“Fianna Fáil’s sham attack on Sinn Féin is absurd and is staggering in its hypocrisy given its attacks on the most vulnerable in successive budgets in 2009 and 2010. Fianna Fáil even advocated further cuts of €2.8 billion to social welfare expenditure in their ‘National Recovery Plan 2011-14’.”
“Sinn Féin won’t be deflected by Fianna Fáil or any other Tory party. We will continue to stand up for the most vulnerable and campaign to end austerity North and South.”
