Trolley figures in Beaumont Hospital unacceptable- Cllr Denise Mitchell

12 February, 2015 - by Denise Mitchell

Dublin Sinn Féin city councillor for Beaumont Donaghmede ward Denise Mitchell has stated her horror and outrage that 478 people are lying on trollies today in our hospitals, with Beaumont Hospital topping the list at 41.

Speaking today about the ongoing hospital beds crisis Cllr Mitchell said:

“The hospital overcrowding problem is a direct result of government austerity policies. Many of our most vulnerable citizens, including the elderly and those suffering with long term illness are being left to linger on trollies in hallways.

“This issue needs to be tackled for once and for all. Year in and year out we see figures like this and nothing seems to change. In our Alternative Budget we proposed to put in place an additional 1000 nurses and midwives post. Hiring more necessary frontline staff would go some way towards alleviating this crisis.”
