One Parent Families still at risk despite publication of new legislation - Ó Snodaigh
Responding to the publication of the Social Welfare Miscellaneous Provisions Bill today Sinn Féin spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh said one parent families will still be at serious risk despite the provisions of the bill
.Deputy Ó Snodaigh said;
“The figures that I referred to today regarding what one parent families will lose when the qualifying age is lowered to seven had already taken account of the provisions of this bill.
“If this cut goes ahead on 2nd July significant financial loss will be suffered by thousands of lone parents and deprivation amongst these households will surely worsen. Almost 12,000 lone parents will suffer a financial loss of up to €86 per week if she proceeds with the cut even when we take account of the provisions of the bill published today.
“So once again I appeal to the Tánaiste to abandon her plan to lower the cut-off age to seven next July.”
