Motion passed to rename Ballymun Plaza “Cearnóg an tSeachtar Laoch” in memory of the leaders of 1916
Speaking from Ballymun after her motion was passed to rename the Plaza in Ballymun Cearnóg an tSeachtar Laoch.
Sinn Féin Councillor Noeleen Reilly said.
“I am delighted that my motion was passed at the recent area committee to rename the plaza. We are all very familiar with the connection between the Heroes of 1916 and Ballymun.
Our seven tower blocks were named after the leaders and as the last remaining block Joseph Plunkett is currently being demolished, I felt it was important that we keep the name and memory in some way in Ballymun.
We already have Scoil on tSeachtar Laoch and now we will have Cearnóg an tSeachtar Laoch.”
She further added,
“This motion will now go to the Heritage committee to ensure it has a connection to the area, which we already know it does. I look forward to seeing this come to fruition in the near future.
I also look forward to participating in the many different events we will have in Ballymun in the lead up to the celebrations in 2016.”
