Sinn Féin call for funding of senior citizen complex at St Michael’s Estate- Cllr Greg Kelly

19 February, 2015 - by Greg Kelly

Sinn Féin councillor Greg Kelly has had a motion passed calling on site 1B in St Michael’s Estate to be used for senior citizen complex. The 1B site is in between the Richmond Barack Gym that is undergoing refurbishment, and the new housing complex Thornton Heights, which opened last year.

Cllr Kelly said

“Last year saw the opening of Thornton Heights after years of hard work by the community and the St Michael’s Regeneration board. Now we should see the completion of that section of St Michael’s Estate. With the work on the gym starting I have called on Minister Alan Kelly to release funds to start building work.

I have also secured the site to be used for senior citizen accommodation only as this is the wish of the local community. We have the supports in place with the HSE complex and other senior housing complexes in the area, so adding to the housing stock for the over 55's makes sense.

I'm glad that my motion has received the full support of the area committee and I will continue to exert pressure to get this work started.
