Sinn Féin candidate Ó Muilleoir officially challenges Alasdair McDonnell to debate.
Sinn Féin MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has said he has officially written to SDLP leader Dr. Alasdair McDonnell requesting a debate on the way forward for South Belfast.
Mr Ó Muilleoir said,
“At the launch of my campaign I challenged SDLP leader Dr. Alasdair McDonnell to a public debate, which Dr McDonnell has declined but stated he would consider a wider debate.
“I have now officially written to Dr McDonnell requesting the debate as I believe the residents of South Belfast have a right to question the candidates in the forthcoming Westminster election.
“I am pleased the DUP candidate Jonathan Bell has already confirmed his willingness to take part in public debate ahead of the election.
“It is important we begin to outline our vision for the future of the constituency so people can make an informed choice come 7th May.
“I am quite happy to engage in any format of debate either as a head to head or as part of a bigger cross-party event.
“I am awaiting a reply from Dr McDonnell’s office but I hope that he will take up the challenge.”
