Cllr Janice Boylan calls for adequate support for those recovering from addiction

3 March, 2015 - by Janice Boylan

Dublin Sinn Féin Cllr Janice Boylan has called for an inter-agency approach to make sure there are adequate supports in place to assist people with their recovery from addiction.

Cllr Boylan was speaking after a seminar today hosted by the Saol project, called "Making Connections", which highlighted relationally and empowering relationships in recovery.

 She said:

"We need to empower people to make their journey through recovery and make it as smooth as possible. The stress that the lack of resources and lack of drug free spaces provided through housing cause' the person in recovery to suffer and in turn lose heart. This is ultimately one of the hardest things for the person working through their recovery has to face. It must be awful to come so far and then be offered a place where it's not drug free and absolutely chaotic.

It's time we stop talking and get down to the business that matters, helping people who want to recover from drug and alcohol addictions in the best way we can. We can do this by providing services and drug free spaces in housing to assist people to come through the recovery process. “
