This government is failing a lost generation- Cllr Shane O'Brien
Responding to the CSO’s employment figures for 2014 released recently Sinn Féin Cllr Shane O'Brien accused Labour and Fine Gael of failing Ireland’s missing generation with 60,900 fewer young people aged between 20 and 34 in employment since both parties entered government.
The Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Councillor said:
“Latest CSO Q4 QNHS figures tell us just 26,900 net new jobs were created in 2014, yet Fine Gael and Labour have committed to delivering full employment by 2018 which in effect means they will have to double their record on job creation record from this year on.
“We’ve seen a further decline in 2014 of the number of young people aged between 20 and 34 in employment and in the labour force. Last year alone saw a drop in employment for this age group of 14,000. Labour and Fine Gael continue to fail Ireland’s missing generation with 60,900 fewer 20 to 34 year olds in employment since both parties entered government.”
