Gas to West scheme a welcome boost for the economy

4 March, 2015 - by Michelle Gildernew

Sinn Fein MP Michelle Gildernew has welcomed the Gas to the West scheme, which is to be launched in Enniskillen today.

“The Gas to the West scheme introduces the natural gas utility to areas such as Dungannon, Coalisland, Enniskillen and Derrylin.  It will not only benefit the environment, as natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel, it will also hugely benefitclients in terms of easier budgeting and lower energy costs.

“It will also be of huge advantage to the elderly and vulnerable in our area, as it is a more convenient option to oil and coal.

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP continues,

“With the difficult financial times we are facing at the minute, investments and projects like this are vitally important and I hope in the not so distant future that the network will be extended to the rest of Fermanagh.

“Construction work is due to start later this year and to be completed by late 2017. It is anticipated that this phase will create 200 jobs, which again can only be welcomed.

“It is estimated that around 40,000 businesses and consumers are to be connected to the natural gas network and I can only hope that this is the beginning of a long awaited investment in the West.”
