Ruane welcomes agreement to light up Stormont
Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has welcomed an agreement to light up Parliament Buildings on St Patrick's Day and three other dates.
Ms Ruane said;
"I welcome the agreement that Parliament Buildings will now be lit up to mark four significant dates in the calendar.
"The first of these will be on Monday, March 9 when the building will be lit up to mark International Women's Day. The event itself falls on March 8 but the Assembly will be sitting on Monday and a report on women in politics will be discussed, so it is fitting that it is lit up on Monday to mark the occasion.
"The other dates that have been agreed are St Patrick's Day, July 12, and Remembrance Sunday.
"There will also be the possibility to add additional dates to light up Stormont to mark other occasions.
"I welcome this as a good start and look forward to the future rolling out of this scheme to create an inclusive environment for everyone."
