Speaking in favour of the Sinn Féin campaign for a living wage at today's Ard Fheis, Cllr. Daithí Doolan said:
"Consecutive governments, particularly the current government, have driven down pay and conditions of workers. They continue in their attempt to make zero hour contracts and precarious conditions the norm. This is wrong, unacceptable and will be resisted.
"Nowhere is this starker that with Dunne's Stores. I applaud the staff at Dunne's who have voted to take strike action. This is despite the bully boy tactics of management.
"Sinn Féin want to rebuild our broken economy. We want an economy where workers are properly rewarded for their work. Simply put; decent pay for a decent days work.
"I would encourage trade unions to work with Sinn Féin to build a progressive Left alliance that breaks the domination of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael in Irish politics.
"The time is now right for that alliance. By working together we can make a living wage the reality for working families."
