Milnes case highlights policing and justice deficit
Sinn Féin West Belfast representative Cllr Michael Ferguson MLA has said that comments made by Kieran Milnes today that the biggest mistake he made was contacting the PSNI and that he was let down by the criminal justice system is a damning indictement particularly of the PSNI.
Mr Ferguson said:
"Kieran Milnes believes that the biggest mistake he made was involving the PSNI. It is clear that the hour delay in attending the scene, the failure to take any evidence from the car and indeed the entire approach of the PSNI to this case have created a totally unsatisfactory situation that was compounded by serious errors within the Justice criminal justice system.
"Kieran Milnes should not be in jail today. All he did was protect his property yet as a result of serious flaws within the policing and criminal justice systems he is behind bars.
"I would urge everyone who wants to take a stand against anti-social behaviour within our community to support the Kieran Milnes.
"Clearly political parties who tell us that the PSNI is an acceptable policing service need to reflect on the serious problems that remain as demonstrated by the scandal of Kieran Milnes case." ENDS
