Deputy Ó Snodaigh launches Dublin Sinn Féin's Programme of Easter Rising Commemorative events
- Dublin 1916 Programme Launch (1 MB)
The launch took place at the GPO on O’Connell Street and also speaking at the event were Cllr Janice Boylan and Cllr Ciarán O Moore, Chair of the Dublin Sinn Fein 1916 committee.
Speaking at the launch Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:
“This year's programme of events, beginning on Good Friday 3rd April at Arbour Hill, includes the 1916 parade from the Garden of Remembrance on Easter Sunday and ends with a series of local events on Easter Monday.”"As we look with one eye towards the centenary celebrations, it is important to realise that the spirit of 1916 is alive today in Ireland. The spirit of freedom, the sense of people power and the determination to bring about real change in our country. "We can see this in growing support for Sinn Féin as well as in the popular movement against water charges, the “last straw” of austerity.Dublin was the city that fought an empire in 1916. Today Dublin Sinn Féin is determined to bring about the New Ireland for which those men and women, worked, fought and died. This Easter we will commemorate them as we do every year. As we prepare for the Centenary of the Easter Rising next year, Sinn Féin will mark it with a series of major events open to all. Events that will signal our intent to build a new Republic, a United Ireland based on equality, justice and peace.”
