Coveney must ensure progress on beef roundtable proposals – Ní Riada

14 March, 2015 - by Liadh Ní Riada MEP

Sinn Féin MEP for Ireland’s South constituency Liadh Ní Riada has called on Minister Coveney to ensure that the proposals agreed late last year at roundtable talks on beef are progressed.

Ní Riada said;

“A commitment was made to undertake a full review of the QPS at the roundtable talks convened by the minister in November. This review was to have been completed by mid-2015, but we have yet to see any progress on it.

“Similarly the Department seems to be dragging its feet in relation to setting up the sub-group to examine bull beef production. This was agreed in January, and two months later it is clear that it has slipped down the list of priorities.

“The issues that led to so much hardship for beef farmers still remain, and it is solutions, not talking-shops that are required. “

Ní mór do Coveney dul chun cinn ar mholtaí chruinnithe comhchéime mairteola - Ní Riada

Ghlaoigh Feisire Eorpach Shinn Féin Liadh Ní Riada ar an nAire Simon Coveney dean cinnte go bhfuil na moltaí comhaontaithe go déanach an bhliain seo caite ag cainteanna comhchéime ar mairteola cuirthe chun cinn.

Dúirt Ní Riada;

"Rinneadh gealltanas chun athbhreithniú iomlán a dhéanamh ar na feidhmeanna QPS ag na cainteanna a thionóil an Aire i mí na Samhna. Bhí an t-athbhreithniú le bheith críochnaithe faoi lár 2015, ach ní aon dul chun cinn air feicthe again go fóil.

"Mar an gcéanna is cosúil go bhfuil an Roinn ag moilleadóireacht ar bhunú an fo-ghrúpa chun scrúdú a dhéanamh ar táirgeadh mairteola tarbh. Aontaíodh an scrúdú seo i mí Eanáir, agus dhá mhí ina dhiaidh sin is léir go bhfuil sé ag sleamhnú síos an liosta tosaíochtaí.

"Tá na saincheisteanna a raibh mar chúis le cruatan an oiread sin d'fheirmeoirí mairteola fós linn, agus is réitigh in ionad níos mó caite atá de dhíth. "
