Kenny remarks despicable and opportunistic – Adams
Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams TD has described remarks made by Taoiseach Enda Kenny in the US as “despicable”.
Gerry Adams was speaking in Belfast today after the launch of ‘Ireland, One Island, No Borders’, a unique collaboration between the Sinn Féin leader and the author and photographer Elizabeth Billups.
Gerry Adams said:
“Enda Kenny’s remarks in the US are despicable and demean his office.
“He called on me to go to the Gardaí with any information I have on sexual abuse. He knows clearly I have already done that.
“We dealt with this in the Dáil earlier in the week before he went to the US.
“He also failed to answer for four months a proposition from Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness through the North South Ministerial Council that a mechanism be put in place to help all victims and survivors of abuse across the island.
“His government has failed to put together an all-island sex offenders list. They are cutting Rape Crisis Centres and advocacy groups.
“So clearly Enda Kenny is not focused on trying to resolve this serious issue or putting the needs of victims and survivors first and his political opportunism demeans the office he holds.”
