Dublin 15 to mobilise in massive numbers to oppose water charges- Cllr Paul Donnelly
Dublin West Sinn Féin representative Cllr Paul Donnelly has said that all the indicators are that Dublin 15 will again mobilise in their thousands in support of the RIGHT2WATER march tomorrow in Dublin City centre.
Cllr Donnelly said;
“We have delivered thousands of leaflets throughout Dublin 15 and the feedback has again been tremendous. People have not been bought off by the temporary concessions introduced by Fine Gael and Labour”
“This evening, between 4.30pm and 6pm, we will be at all our local train stations for our final push to ensure all our citizens are fully informed of the march tomorrow at 2pm and our local rallying point of Connolly station at 1pm.”
"The community are very well aware of Sinn Féin’s long track record of opposition to Water Charges, from Minister Conor Murphy blocking water charges in the North, to our support of the campaign to reverse Water Charges. The Right2Water Campaign, of which Sinn Féin is a member, is key to overturning the charges."
"It is a flat, regressive tax, which takes no account of ability to pay and could push many struggling families into poverty."
"A citizen on social welfare pays the same rate as would a government minister, or the chief executive of a multinational company. That is totally wrong."
“A major march like Saturdays will not be the end of this campaign. We intend to push on and ensure that those voices of opposition to water charges and privatisation are heard”
“On the eve of this major demonstration of people power, I again urge all citizens to make their way into Dublin City centre and ensure that Fine Gael Minister and TD Leo Varadkar and Labour Minister and TD Joan Burton get the message loud and clear from Dublin 15.”
